Book review the plot against america5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Herman sees a big promotion in his future, one that could lead them all into a single-family home in a more affluent neighborhood, while Bess, whose childhood has taught her about petty prejudices, worries about being the only Jewish family in a WASP township. The Big Sick's Zoe Kazan and Homeland's Morgan Spector, as Bess and Herman Levin, are the heads of a household that seems to be on the uptick. Lindbergh is a xenophobe who is committed to keeping America out of another World War, and his constant dog-whistling creates stealth strife for a Jewish community that is already being ostracized. 9 Images The show opens in 1940, a year(ish) before the attack on Pearl Harbor and America's choice to join in the global struggle against powerful and evil aggressors, and brings us into the Levin family - a middle-class Jewish clan in suburban New Jersey who are about to face a tragic, tumultuous turn of events in this timeline thanks to the rise in political popularity of one Charles Lindbergh, an American hero pilot being groomed by the Republican Party to run against Roosevelt. ![]()

Lili reinhart swimming lessons review5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Accompanied by striking and evocative illustrations, the poems in Swimming Lessons reveal the depths of female experience, and are the work of a storyteller who is coming into her own. They capture what it feels like to be a young woman in today's image-obsessed world, and how to follow your heart even when the odds are stacked against you. Relatable yet deeply intimate, provocative yet comforting, bite-sized yet profound, these beautiful poems are about growing up, falling down, and getting back up again. Through it all, Lili's trademark honesty, optimism, and unique perspective are evident in her first poetry collection. It follows the euphoric beginnings of young love, battling anxiety and depression in the face of fame, and coming to terms with the end of a romance. Swimming Lessons The debut collection of poetry from Lili Reinhart, the actress and outspoken advocate for mental health awareness and body positivity. The name of the wind book5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() The universe in which this story is set is beautifully and articulately created. The story wraps around Kvothe’s life just as you would want, exploring his journey from childhood into adolescence, and a little of the way into maturity. Autobiographical for the most part, it starts, finishes, and occasionally reverts to a narrative telling of the interview from whence the autobiographical information springs. ![]() The book, which is essentially an autobiography of a once famous now reclusive musician, arcanist and adventurer named Kvothe, is revolutionary – to my eyes at least – in its storytelling method. The Name of the Wind, Day One of the Kingkiller Chronicles, quickly made its way into my top fantasy series list. More than groundless, they could even be called vaguely offensive to Rothfuss who proved himself in his first mass market literary outing to be nothing short of a genius. This also had me a little worried, as I am becoming more and more wary of new authors. The book is called The Name of the Wind, and it is written by a new author, Patrick Rothfuss. Thankfully, twice this theory has fallen by the wayside. Maybe it is my own great arrogance (or maybe one of many), but I just figure that – unless they are of a special few – I am the better judge of books. ![]() When friends hand me books to read, I am always suspicious of whether the books will be any good. ![]()

Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() There's a lovely mermaid approaching the water's surface, rising from the murky depths below. In fact, what appeal the books had for me was pretty much related to these mysterious, haunting black-and-white images. I had thought they were very good illustrations, too. Vinnie's first comment was, "The pictures aren't very good." But he immediately added: "Actually, the pictures are good, but they're too dark to see anything." They're big fans of Neil Gaiman and Jane Yolen. They are both avid readers and tend to go for interesting, compelling stories. To me, the stories were wholly uninteresting, without meaningful challenges to the characters plot and character development were sorely lacking and, worst of all, I read the whole thing in about an hour.ĭisappointed, and wondering how I could possibly concoct a review from this material, I decided to pull in my emergency back-up crew: the kids. But, left to myself, I would have been hard-pressed to come up with a bare 300 words for a review of the two novels, Aquamarine and Indigo, contained in Water Tales. Jennie melamed5/10/2023 ![]() Overall, I can’t really say I enjoyed reading this book, and I did skim through some of the middle. I also wish the ending was more radical and made more of an impact. While Melamed’s descriptions and writing are good, the book was slow-paced. This was a haunting and brutal book to read. ![]() Caitlin is eager for knowledge and is allowed to read books from the wastelands Janey, at seventeen, has been starving herself for years in order to prevent her period from coming.
